January 28 - Feb 1

January 28 -February 1

Reading: We will be reading Beavers Green Treat, Little Rabbits Tale and Grow, Apple Grow. We will be working on the the long e sound made by ee and ea, high frequency words (door, hurry, mother, dear, should, sky, told), cause and effect, contractions and describing words. We will have a test on Friday to review all we worked on this week.

Math: We will be reviewing Chapter 7 for our test on Friday. This chapter was all about bar graphs, picture graphs, tally charts, impossible vs possible and more or less likely. You could review these concepts with your children to help them!

Writing: We will be doing Lesson 19, which focuses on color/size/shape and describing details. We
will be writing to Miss Childers and drawing and writing a penguin.

Handwriting: Kk, K Words, Zz, Z Words

Phonics: er, igh

Spelling: Pre-Test Tuesday because of Stephen Fite

Wednesday we will be attending the Stephen Fite concert in Alva. It begins at 10. We plan to leave the school at 8:30. We will be back at the school early afternoon.

Don't forget to be reading! It will help them greatly!

January 21 - 25

Reading: We will be doing the Theme 4 test. No reading book this week and no test at the end of the week.

Math: We will be doing lessons 10 through 13, focusing on taking a survey, bar graphs, possible, impossible and more likely/less likely.  We will finish the week up with a review of those lessons.

Writing: We will be doing a Martin Luther King writing task. We will then research and write about a topic.  We will read a story individually and then they will have to put that story in their own writing. We will then edit our writing and make a final copy.

Handwriting: Practice, Application, Xx, X words

Phonics: cle, kle, sle, zle, Assessment,

Spelling: Pre-Test Wednesday Post-Test Friday

January 14 - 18

Don't forget no school Wednesday as the high school team is playing at Chesapeake Arena against Cherokee.

Reading: We will be reading Shadow in the Snow, Snow Surprise and Snowflake Man. We will be working on the ow and oa, high frequency words (mouse, our, over, pretty, surprise, three), point of view, phonograms and homophones. We will have our weekly test on Friday.

Math: We will be doing lessons 7,8 and 9. They focus on making and using a graph, reading tally charts and making tally charts. We will have our test on Friday.

Writing: We will be doing Lesson 18, writing to Mrs. Gaskill and doing 100 day activities.

Handwriting: Y words, Ww, W words

January 7 - 11

Reading: We are back to the normal routine!  We will be reading Jungle Fun, Can Elephants Paint? and An Elephants Three T's. Our story starts on page 178.  We will be learning the final -le, high frequency words (buy, carry, money, other, paint, paper, would), Main idea, ed and ing with doubling the final consonant and the possessive.

Math:  We will be continuing with Chapter 7 with lessons 3,4,5 and 6.  These lessons incorporate concrete graphs, using pictures to show data, reading a picture graph and making picture graph.  We will finish this week with a review on Lessons 1-6.

Writing: We will be working on Lesson 17 writing, which speaks about possessives and a friendly letter.  We will write about what it would feel like to be a bird, write to Miss Childers and draw and write a frog.

Handwriting: Application, Slant of Writing, Vv, V Words, Yy

Phonics: Assessment, Ble, Fle, Ple, Ale, Tle, Gle

Spelling: Our words are getting more difficult. Please be working on them at home.

Jan 2 - 4

Reading - We will be working on many topics we discussed in the 1st semester to review those concepts.  We will be working on characters/settings, classification, compare and contrast, making predictions and sequence.

Math - We will begin Unit 3. We will start will lessons 7.1 and 7.2. These are about sorting and classifying and venn diagrams.

Writing - My New Years Wish, A Snail and Squiggle

Handwriting - Hh, H words, Practice

Phonics - J, V, Spelling with Final C

Social Studies - We will be picturing the United States.

We will be doing Snow Art this week as well.
