Apple Art
We decorated some apples for Johnny Appleseed! We made them out of tissue paper. They did a great job!
Football Placemats
Mrs. Crissup asked us to make placemats for carb night for the high school football boys. We gladly accepted and the kiddos loved making them for the big kids. They sure do look up to them!

Sept 24 - 28
In Reading, we will be reading "Ten Eggs," "Little Red Hen Gets Help" and "Let's Make Tortillas." The stories start on page 16. We will be working on the short vowel e, the high frequency words, compare and contrast, initial blends with l and exclamations! They will be bringing their reader home on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
In math, we will be working on exploring equality and making a model. We will then review for our chapter 2 test on Friday. Addition, addition, addition!
Writing will consist of writing to Johnny Appleseed, write to Miss Childers, draw and write a mouse and exclamations!
We will continue to work on handwriting with the letter t and reviewing the letter l, i and t.

We are all checking out tests and reading books! This is a huge accomplishment and I am very proud of them for being responsible and doing their very best!

Sept 17 - 21
I apologize for being late on posting this week! It just slipped my mind.
In reading, we are reading "A Tall, Tall Wall", "All on the Map" and "Roads." Our story this week starts on page 200. The kiddos will be bringing their reader home on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. You will see a new reader starting next week!
We will be working on the -all sound this week. We will be doing our high frequency words, classifying and categorizing, contractions and asking questions.
In math, we will continue to work on addition with lessons 2.5 to 2.8. These lessons include adding in any order, ways to make the number 8, vertical addition sentences and ways to make numbers to 10. On Friday, we will review those lessons so I can see who is grasping it and who is not. We will continue with timed tests and centers through this week.
In writing we wrote about some of our favorite places. They were sooo cute! We are going to draw and write about a frog, write to Mrs. Gaskill, write about our favorite thing to do on recess and talk about questions.
Handwriting begins with the letter L, l words, I, I i, i words and finishing out with the letter T t. We are really trying to be as good as we can in handwriting. I believe everyone is capable of good handwriting it just takes time and persistence.
Phonics we are talking about the H, G, R, assessments and K.

We will be introducing our theme of Johnny Appleseed as next weekend is his birthday! We will be doing art and talking about his contributions to us today. Apples :)
Friday we will celebrate both Mrs. Gaskill and Kresta as their birthdays are in September. We will begin at around 2:45. If weather permits we will go out by the softball field tables to enjoy our treats. Anyone is welcome to attend.

Sept 10th - 14th
In reading, we will be reading "Jobs", "Dot and Bob" and "Trees Help." They start on page 152. I will be sending their readers home on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We will be working on the short vowel o, high frequency words (find, much and thank), characters, inflections -ed and -ing and continuing with the telling part of a sentence.
Our words of the day include his, it, what, where and get.
Our numbers we will focus on are 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
We will continue working on different activities and topics through centers. I feel like the children are really enjoying this time to work on different tasks and it is helping us work on a wide range of topics individually and in groups.
In math, we are starting chapter 2. This chapter is focused completely on addition. We will talk about model addition, using symbols to add, part-part-whole and using dominoes with addition. On Friday, we will review each of the lessons to see if we fully grasped what was taught this week.
We are starting addition timed tests this week. Everyone will start with adding zero to a number. As soon as your child passes that they move on to the next addition fast fact. Happy adding :)
In writing, we will be continuing working on sentences, we will do a hero activity pertaining to September 11th, we will write to Miss Childers, make a birthday book for Kresta and talk about the telling parts of a sentence.
In handwriting, we will practice our numbers 1-5 and 6 - 10 and write number sentences.
We will continue to go through the phonics lessons and work on different sounds, blends and digraphs.
Here our are spelling words for the week. We are working on the short o sound:
We will be continuing to work on social studies by talking more about maps and what we use them for in our lives. We will also be making football place mats for the boys to use at carb night next week. I will assign each child a football player/coach and they will get to make them a fun eating area!
I promise to post pictures this week!
Your child will have homework in both reading and math Monday-Thursday this week.

Sept 3 -7
In reading, this week we will be reading a fun story. We will read "Pick a Sack" on page 116, "Get up, Rick" and "Cock-a-Doodle-Doo". Your child will bring their readers home on Wednesday and Thursday. Please help them read the story and return the signed slip on Friday.
We will be working on the digraph /k/ ck, our high frequency words, the beginning, middle and end of stories, the ill and it and telling parts of a sentence.
In math, we will be preparing for our test at the end of the week. We will be reviewing chapter 1 by doing the extra practice, standard quick check and looking ahead.
Writing will be another top priority as we are continuing to work on sentences, writing to Mrs. Gaskill, the telling parts of a sentence and finishing out the week with drawing and writing about a bird.
In handwriting, we will work on the rest of the numbers and review the numerals we worked on last week.
Phonics we are working on suffixes, blends, the letter D and finishing up the week with an assessment over the first 15 lessons.
Our spelling words this week focus on the /k/ ck sound:
We will be working on our fair project for the week. We are entering the poster contest. I am letting the children choose between "Be Smart and Don't Start!" or "How I Exercise." I will be sending a note home just letting you know we are entering something. If this is NOT something you would like I will not send your child's poster. I am sure your child will want to check out their poster sometime next weekend.
This week we are starting to do centers. We will have math and reading centers. We are also adding a word of the day. This week they include: an, as, by and let. We also are adding a number of the day, 0,1, 2 and 3 will be on the agenda for this week.
