Sept 10th - 14th

In reading, we will be reading "Jobs", "Dot and Bob" and "Trees Help." They start on page 152. I will be sending their readers home on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  We will be working on the short vowel o, high frequency words (find, much and thank), characters, inflections -ed and -ing and continuing with the telling part of a sentence.

Our words of the day include his, it, what, where and get.
Our numbers we will focus on are 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

We will continue working on different activities and topics through centers.  I feel like the children are really enjoying this time to work on different tasks and it is helping us work on a wide range of topics individually and in groups.

In math, we are starting chapter 2.  This chapter is focused completely on addition.  We will talk about model addition, using symbols to add, part-part-whole and using dominoes with addition.  On Friday, we will review each of the lessons to see if we fully grasped what was taught this week.

We are starting addition timed tests this week.  Everyone will start with adding zero to a number. As soon as your child passes that they move on to the next addition fast fact.  Happy adding :)

In writing, we will be continuing working on sentences, we will do a hero activity pertaining to September 11th, we will write to Miss Childers, make a birthday book for Kresta and talk about the telling parts of a sentence.

In handwriting, we will practice our numbers 1-5 and 6 - 10 and write number sentences.

We will continue to go through the phonics lessons and work on different sounds, blends and digraphs.

Here our are spelling words for the week. We are working on the short o sound:
  1. top
  2. hop
  3. hot
  4. not
  5. dot
  6. lot
  7. back
  8. pick
  9. oh
  10. yes
  11. nine
  12. ten
Pre-Test will be on Wednesday and the Post-Test on Friday.

We will be continuing to work on social studies by talking more about maps and what we use them for in our lives.  We will also be making football place mats for the boys to use at carb night next week.  I will assign each child a football player/coach and they will get to make them a fun eating area!

I promise to post pictures this week!

Your child will have homework in both reading and math Monday-Thursday this week.
